Diner

Rockwell and Sons

Sometimes it takes me way too long to visit a restaurant on my ‘must eat’ list, even if it’s a place that I’m super keen about. And most of the time it’s my own fault – I decide what I want to eat 4 days in advance, so big surprise when that day comes around and I don’t feel like whatever it was I had decided on anymore. Even though I would probably feel like it once I have the menu in front of me. This has been a constant source of frustration for Chris, poor bloke.

TGI Fridays

I’m not one for big nights out. The last time I attempted to have a night on the town ended up with my buttocks freezing off in a skimpy dress, feeling revolting the next morning despite not having eaten or drank very much, and 80 dollars gone goodness knows where. But when TGI Fridays sent me an email wanting to inject some Friday into my Monday, I was happy to accept.

Soda Rock Diner

I have a secret, dirty fascination. I am a bit ashamed to admit it but, greasy, disgusting American diner food has always held a sort of magnetism for me, even as every healthy cell in my body screams NO. Trunk Diner

“Where’s the fire?” My sister asked me as we walked up to Trunk Diner. Turns out the very smoky smoke wasn’t coming from any fire source; or rather, no fire that wasn’t cooking delicious smelling burgers and bacon within the diner itself. Nestled in a sunlight-dappled garden full of rustling leaves, Trunk is a green oasis in the CBD. Need a quick lunch with a work friend? Trunk Diner will supply you with that burger, salad, or midday coffee you need. Hoping to seal that business deal? The Merrywell

Apparently burgers are romantic. Chris and I spent Valentine’s Day scoffing burgers at Grill’d, and we would have been stuffing our gobs with some American-styled burgers from The Merrywell for our 1000 day anniversary, if it hadn’t been for a series of unfortunate events (HAH) that led us to a quiet dinner at Mocha Jo’s instead. Located right at the far end of Crown near the exhibition center, Merrywell is positively buzzing and bumping from as early as 6pm on a Friday night. After all, how can a bar serving delicious, fatty TGIF food served downstairs, and a fancier but equally as sinful menu upstairs, go wrong? Especially when wrapped in the irresistibly vibrant glow of Southbank at dusk.

Trunk Diner

Brunch is, without a doubt, the best meal of the day. It’s the meal for everything from French toast to baguettes to waffles to omelettes. It’s the meal where decadence isn’t just allowed, it’s ENCOURAGED. And after finishing all my mid-semester exams (though finishing is one thing, doing well is another), I felt like I deserved a bit of extra decadence. And where can you get brunch for less than $10 each that isn’t run of the mill? Trunk Diner.
