Major Mitchell is straight up cottagecore goodness right in the middle of suburbia. Hidden away behind a tall hedge, this pastel weatherboard house is surrounded by an oasis of flowers and greenery, with plenty of room to spread out under the trees and garden umbrellas. Their all-day brunch offerings hit the balance between familiar and seasonal, and the extensive range of beverages means it’s also an excellent place to pop by for a drink and a chat. I am very chuffed to have this place down the road.

Rating: 12.5/20 – garden party vibes.
Hot tip: apparently there are sometimes bees outside??? so sit inside if you’re anaphylactic, I guess?

Corn Fritters ($25.5) with Bacon ($6.5)

The Corn Fritters ($25.5) with Bacon ($6.5) is a super hearty way to start the day. Though the fritters are a bit doughy, the stodginess is made up for by the fresh salad of greens and soft herbs. The nuggets of smoked bocconcini and the base of corn cream add richness, should you choose to not go the bacon route.

Granola Bowl ($21.5)

On the lighter end of the spectrum is the seasonal fruit Granola Bowl ($21.5), which comes with plenty of toasted nuts and seeds, a dollop of coconut yoghurt, and a remarkably good house-made mango sorbet.

Iced Rose Latte ($7.5) with Espresso ($5)

Drinks-wise, we shared the Iced Rose Latte ($7.5) with an additional Espresso ($5) shot on the side. By itself, the latte tasted like a watered-down version of gulabi doodh – Indian rosewater milk. But it made for a surprisingly good drink with the coffee mixed in, smoothing out the robust beans with its floral sweetness.
