Bodhi Restaurant

Now that I have finally finished medical school, I have a glorious two-month window before I start my internship where I’m expected to do nothing except what I want. And even if most of this year hadn’t been spent in lockdown, hitting up restaurants that I normally don’t have time to visit would still be top of my list. And very high up on that list is Bodhi Restaurant. Because even though it’s open lunch through dinner, it’s the yum cha menu that I’m really interested in, and spending half a day on something like that just wasn’t the kind of time I had… until now. Bodhi is tucked away in a lush corner of Cook and Phillip Park, almost…

Calle Rey

The top end of King St in Newtown gets a bad rap. For myself personally at any rate, I find myself pretty much ignoring anything due east of the turn-off to RPA hospital. Hence, I’m always surprised when good eats pop up along that stretch of road, and that was exactly how I felt when I came first came across Calle Rey. Having been searching for good Mexican food since coming up to Sydney, as well as being rather keen on vegan food as of late, I was very surprised that this is the first I’ve ever heard of Calley Rey, which ticks both of those boxes. The restaurant and bar is rather snazzy, with fun décor that hints at…

Little Turtle

I love vegan food – there, I said it. But I feel like this turnabout is less due to any personal development on my part, and more attributable to the fact that vegan food in Sydney is a little magical. Ramen, Pizza, Laksa – you name it, and they can do a vegan version that tastes miraculously similar to its animal-containing alternative, and probably taste better to boot. I will take a little credit however; it wasn’t so long ago that I was denouncing vegan food in favour of fried chicken.

Pizza Madre

Here’s to the end of 2020 (well, at the time of writing anyway)! Although I can’t speak definitively for everyone, I’m pretty sure most people absolutely cannot wait to bid goodbye to this strange and uncomfortable year. And what better way is there to celebrate the end of this long, hard slog than with a pizza party? I don’t have a whole lot in the way of pizza options around my place, but a quick 20 minute drive towards the city gets me to Pizza Madre, which consistently makes its way onto best-of lists, despite being an entirely vegetarian operation. And although its name suggests something familiar and cosy, Pizza Madre is less of a mother, and more of an…

Chatkazz

When I travel, I am all about that street food. To me, there is no better way to guarantee that what you’re eating is the freshest, most traditional, and most delicious foods a culture has to offer. But whilst I’ve spent a good amount of my time eating around Asia, my knowledge of South-Asian street food is rather woeful. It comes as no surprise however that the good people of India love to eat, and whilst it’s not always easy to find Indian snacks at a restaurant, Chatkazz is one place where you won’t be left wanting.

Lonely Mouth

It’s been a long two months, but the blog is back! Socially-distanced, but undeniably back. Oh how I’ve missed going out to eat! Lonely Mouth opened pretty much on the cusp of coronavirus forcing us all into lockdown, so I was afraid that by the time we were allowed to emerge from our homes again, it would have fallen victim to the economical crash like so many other restaurants. Thankfully, that was not the case. They’ve kept things going with a steady stream of takeaway orders, and they’ve reopened for dinner as of last week. You do have to book via email for a strict 45-minute sitting, but once you’re there, you can feel safe in the knowledge that everyone…
